Title: Gravel Tires
Post by AnthonyT on 07/28/3 at 20:10:46

...a curiosity question of sorts.

How well do gravel tires work on pavement?  Are they much more suseptable to hydroplane then a regular or performance street tire?  Do they wear quickly?  Would they be completely unbearable as an everyday commuting tire (as a fun experiment if one did do a fair amount of gravel travel?)?

Just wonderin'?

Thanks, Anthony

Horribly noisy...fast wearing...and absoloutly useless in snow...

very good for what they are designed for (gravel) but mediocer to absoloutly crappy for everything else...best to buy a set of cheap rims and some used tires and swap em on or off at your leasure...

Big tread blocks do not respond well on pavement, especially when wet.

DO NOT USE IN WINTER!!  INSTANT DEATH!!!  Once those blocks fill up, you might as well be on skates.

Yah, seen this:
Hakka 1's + dry pavement + too much speed = car meets rock face.

Something experienced drivers know, choose the right tires for the job.  Also, the driver of above vehicle did not heed the warnings fed to him by the odd motion of the car at speed and paid the price with a totalled car (and he was lucky!).
