Title: ZAP OmniMedia Web Site is now online
Post by Zeev on 07/05/4 at 15:57:15

Hi all,

Many of you have already been to our website during its
construction, but here's the official announcement! Our website
at http://www.zapomnimedia.com is now officially online, and will
provide photo coverage of various rally events around Ontario and
North America.

The Black Bear galleries are still being finalized, but all the
photos are already available for viewing online in the "Complete
photo gallery" section.

Right now we have to go through 2 Gigabytes of material from
Rallye de Baie des Chaleurs from this weekend. We'll post a separate
announcement as soon as the pictures become available. All I can
say right now is that the event was very spectacular, and it looks
like we have captured some very good moments there.

We also plan to post some photos from past events - like Tall
Pines 2003 and others.

Thanks everyone for your interest in our photos, and enjoy our
new  website.

Would I be correct in assuming that these professionally taken photographs are not available for reuse? (i.e. in my own (noncommercial) video remixes, posted on my blog, printed out, etc)

The images are Copyright (C) 2004 ZAPOmniMedia.com and corresponding ZAP
team members.  They are available for any purpose, but not always for free :)
For example to print an image you either need to get us to do it, or to purchase
a full resolution digital copy. Other things (like video remixes) do not require
a full resolution image. Publishing images on the web is yet another thing...

Please contact us directly through the website to discuss your specific needs.

Thanks; I notice that MLRC website photos also have ZAP tag embedded - do similar restrictions apply to those photos as well?

(to clarify, I'm not a pro so I don't really have "needs"  - just occasional "whims" to link an image or incorporate it into clumsy attempts to mix things - so a general explanation such as this is much better then me bugging you guys every time I get a crazy idea:). For now, I'll just stay away from the site, lest I get tempted ;) (the site looks real sleek though - great job!:)) )

Talking about "to link an image" I would like tell you that it's not the best way to pay back to the site owner. Especially when you link an image to a web forum or a blog...(except situations when you physically re-upload an image).
I don't want to go deep in to details just want to remember that such things called Traffic Leeching or just a Leeching. So it's just a question of a good manners.  ;)

(Thanks - I appreciate the effort to explain :) ; however, I've been around the 'net for a while ;), and it is precisely because of my understanding of the value of copyrighted works to their owners that I wanted a clarification. By linking to an image, I meant to original html page or frameset (however the author wished it to be viewed; of course that's impossible with Flash galleries, but that's a whole other issue/rant;) ), not embedding somebody else's image in my own page - I have more then enough storage for that, as I host my own videos etc as needed:). In other words, I hope it is indication of my good manners (or at least good will:)) that I asked for the owner to specify which usage they allow and which they do not - only by knowing that can I be sure not to trespass in any way, as general netiquette will only take you so far and different people/companies have different tresholds:))

Cheers
