Title: Re: Perce Neige Videos Post by Ferdinand on 02/11/5 at 12:25:41 Hi Ian, Yup, dial up sucks. I don't (yet) have a dvd burner. I can burn a CD though and I might even be able to figure out how to make a vcd. If not, I can at least burn the wmv files to a data CD for you. It'll have to wait until later this weekend though. Don't worry about paying anything. First off, I've never tried making a vcd before so it'll be an educational experience for me. But more importantly, because you're a new sponsor of the fabulous Ontario Winter Rally, I'm more than happy to be able to do this small thing for you in return. cheers, -Ferdinand- |
Title: Re: Perce Neige Videos Post by Nikola on 02/11/5 at 16:55:35 aww heck, for a sponsor of OWR... I should be able to pull the linked videos and burn them to DVD-Video :D If you want, PM me a shipping address. edit: hmmmhm... assuming somebody can let me know of any easy way to pull them from that host, rather then viewing them in IE... :| |

Title: Re: Perce Neige Videos Post by Ferdinand on 02/12/5 at 15:13:38 Alrighty! We have the technology to produce a VCD (video CD). I never knew I could that. My software lets me burn a VCD or DVD. Unfortunately I don't have a DVD burner. But since I do have the capability of burning CDs I tried that and, wadda ya know, it works! The software spent a long time rendering, compiling, and generating huge temporary files before finally spinning the CD drive and eventually spitting out a brand spanking new finished VCD. Too cool! So, next question, what do you do with a VCD? How do you play it? I tried sticking it in the DVD player and, lo and behold, it plays dandy fine. Awesome. But I now know the difference between a DVD and VCD. With VCD it first generates an MPEG file and burns that onto the CD. It plays in a DVD player, but the MPEG compressed image quality is nowhere near as good DVD. Still, it works great and a CD holds a lot of footage. Ian, should I send the VCD to your Clearwater Design address? |

Title: Re: Perce Neige Videos Post by Ferdinand on 02/14/5 at 13:53:48 Ian, it's in the mail. If anybody else, other than Ian, wants a VCD copy of the video footage that'll play on a DVD player, send me an email <trauttf (at) iprimus.ca>. I can mail you a VCD for a cost of $5. It contains all the same footage as above, about 19 minutes. Blank CDs are about $1ea, postage within Canada is around another $1, need an envelope too, plus the time I have to spend licking a stamp and walking to the mailbox, all comes to about $5. :P Otherwise, if you're coming to SOWR, I could save you the envelope and postage, and hand you a VCD with your name on it at registration for $2. Just please send me an email beforehand so I know how many to make and I'll bring a disk for you. |
