Title: Pace Note Glossary - what's a mirage?
Post by Nikola on 03/02/5 at 16:50:38

Is there an online dictionary/glossary of pacenote terms, or similar? I was watching the British Rally Championship and drivers kept being warned about "mirages". I know what the word means in general language, but in pacenotes? Is it a deceptive curve perhaps? On some stretches though the warning was nearly constant...

Thanks:)

Yeah, I have no idea why you'd call a "mirage" note. Wacky British  :D

yes, well, I learned from my googling it's a type of car, but if that's what they meant... then abandoned Mitsubishis must be the most common driving hazard littering the quaint British countryside  ;D

Was the team you were listenig to driving an Evo? Maybe they had a contractual agreement to mention a Mitsubishi product at least 10 times per minute. ;D

nah, they were driving a Ford Focus. No Evos in fact that I've seen in that championship at all... ridiculous number of Imprezas though in the open category - and all kinds of funky European vehicles in the Super 1600s :>

... that's a funny idea though...
Left 5 long narrow Ford Ford Built For life in Canada into Right 3 don't cut Focus Focus Ford Tough 200 Left 2 over crest caution F150 For all life's roads Ford Ford caution etc...  ;D

It could be that the road looks like it's going left, but in fact the call is to go right.  So calling R5, Mirage, is just that particular drivers way of saying ignore what you are seeing and follow the notes.

Hmm, so the equivalent of a "Deceptive" call, yeah, I guess that makes sense.

But then again, it could of been a Mitsubishi Mirage Cyborg he was seeing in front of him

Re. calling an F150...at Perce Neige we came around a corner and there in front of us appeared to be a F150 rolled and wrecked on top of the snowbank with two guys in lawn chairs facing us enjoying the sun and some libations and cheering us on.  It may have been a mirage it was so weird.  Ummm...are you seeing what I'm seeing I said to my co-driver?

Eh!!!
We are not all wacky... Well, most of us aren't...

I spoke with my uncle in England about what a "Mirage" is, as he is a driver, and has never heard of it.  So really no help at all, sorry.
