Title: ROSS WOOD PLATFORM
Post by rosswood on 03/09/5 at 10:00:10

I am seeking your support in person or by proxy in the upcoming RallySport Ontario elections in Peterborough on March 26th.

I have advised the RSO Nominating Committee of my intent to run for the position of Secretary of RallySport Ontario for the 2005-2006 term.

My involvement with RallySport Ontario in many different capacities spans over two decades.  In the past couple of years I have seen us make significant steps  forward in certain areas,  but there is room for still further improvements.  I would like to continue to be a part of that and believe that my experience and skills make me a good candidate for a position on the RSO Board as Secretary.

Rally Background

-
have been a competitor and organizer in all aspects of rally in Ontario and beyond since I first entered a rally put on by the Engineers at the University of Toronto,  winning numerous championships in regional and national road and performance rallies on both sides of the car

-
have successfully organized every type of rally from club contract rallies,  to beginner rallies,  to regional championship road rallies plus every level of performance rally

-
have held positions at all management levels in rally organizations from club to region to national board

-
recipient of the CARS Ken Vaughan Memorial Trophy for my contribution to Canadian rally over many years

-
currently Chair of the National Organizers’ Committee (CNRC)

-
chaired the CARS Five Year Plan Committee

-
chaired the CARS Safety Operating Guidelines Committee

-
currently Clerk of the Course of the Targa Newfoundland Rally and of the Rally of the Tall Pines,  as well as Organizer of the Ontario Winter Rally

- current Vice President and past Presidentof RallySport Ontario

My Goals for RallySport Ontario

I believe that RSO has done and is doing a good job of managing rally in Ontario,  however some specific areas that I feel need improvement include the following:

-
determining the wishes and needs of the Ontario rally community and setting forth a plan of action to bring those wishes to fruition.
I think in some areas we have been trying to sell people what we think we want and not necessarily what they really want.  An example is the annual RSO Beginner Rally School.  Each year we recruit about 50 eager candidates,  then lose most of them within six months.  We are either not offering what the customer wants or we are doing a terrible job of marketing what we have.  We must interact closely with those people to determine what they are looking for and how we can accommodate them. I believe a structured  mentoring program would be beneficial to newcomers.  We should also take a look at the highly successful events across the country e.g. winter drivexes and Targa,  then determine how we can offer more equally attractive events.  I believe one of those is RallyCross near the GTA.

-
communicating with our membership in a meaningful and timely manner

Despite occasional sporadic efforts to improve this over the years,  in general I feel that RSO has not succeeded in keeping our clubs and individual members well informed. Often the minutes of an RSO meeting have not been published until days before the next meeting.  This is unacceptable.  The time and location of the next meeting often seems to be treated like secret information. As Secretary I would concentrate my efforts on improving this significantly.  My record in communicating with workers, competitors and committees speaks for itself.  I would extend this to clubs on behalf of RSO.

-marketing ourselves, our events and our services

RSO has made huge steps forward recently in marketing rally in Ontario.  Examples are the booth at the Toronto Auto Show,  the event calendar and partnerships with media personnel, magazines, sponsors etc.  Yet we have a lot further to go in this area.  I would like to be part of the group to spearhead that initiative.

I would be pleased to respond to any comments or questions from RSO members, either publicly or individually.  Please do not hesitate to contact me at ross.wood@sympatico.ca or at 705-887-1130.

Please attend the election meeting on March 26th.   If you cannot attend in person I ask that you send me or another RSO member of your choice your proxy by e mail. You must have been a member of an RSO club in 2004 to qualify.

Wording of the proxy should be as follows:

I, _____________________, being a member in good standing of _______________, a club affiliated with RallySport Ontario, hereby appoint ______________________, to vote on my behalf at the RallySport Ontario AGM on March 26, 2005 in Peterborough and any adjournment thereof.

Thanks for your consideration.
