Title: 2006 Four Star Motorsports Rallycross Championship
Post by English on 06/19/6 at 21:48:51

Four Star Motorsports and the Maple Leaf Rally Club are proud to present the 2006 Four Star Motorsports Rallycross Championship!

The 2006 rallycross series will be returning mainly to the Dungannon Recreation Centre in Bancroft, Ontario.

This year’s series has been extended to four events:
July 30th, August 27th, September 24th, October 22nd.

This year includes a series championship, and a trophy for the overall winner in each class over the four events will be handed out at the end of the year. Check out the website for full rules, regulations and changes for this year.

There will also be a end of year banquet for workers and competitors, to be held at the Rivers Edge Golf Course after the October event.

These events are intended to provide safe, affordable rally competition for novice and experienced competitors alike. Classes are available for all cars and the series is suitable for street vehicles. The series will run under CARS Rallycross rules, so roll cages and five-point harnesses are not required.

Online registration will open soon. $40 per driver (maximum 3 drivers per car)

Incentive program:

-- All volunteers for the 2006 Black Bear Rally will receive a $10 rebate (to be paid in cash at the event) for their entry in the July rallycross.
-- All MLRC club members will receive a $10 rebate (to be paid in cash at the event) at each rallycross.
-- All volunteers for the 2006 Rally of the Tall Pines Road work day will receive a $10 rebate (to be paid in cash at the event) for their entry in the following rallycross date (work day TBD).

More information can be found at http://www.mlrc.ca/rallycross/index.html.

Please contact the series coordinator, James Drake, at rallycross@mlrc.ca if you have any questions.

See you in Bancroft! (and at the Coe Hill Fair Sat 26th Aug)

This is great news.
I work every other weekend, and somehow every single event that I've wanted to run this year has been scheduled on my work weekend ???
I'll have to find a way. This was one of the best events I've ever attended.

Anyone know a good place to get a basic Snell SA helmet?

CSC Racing in Newmarket has the Bell Mag4's (Snell SA2005) for $320CDN (I don't know if they carry more models than they advertize on-line) but the Bell on-line store is selling off their SA2000 Pyrotect open-face helmets for $109US. The only problem is I'm wary of buying a helmet without trying it on first.

I may end up with a cheap M2000 helmet if I can't find anything else.

Grisdale Racing in Dundas sells Impact Racing (i.e. Bill Simpson's new company) helmets.  I've never dealt with them directly, and I know exactly zero people who use Impact stuff, but it may be worth checking out.

Hi Hibbert,
Check out:
Johnson Research Performance,

Mississauga, L5J 2M4
Tel: 905-822-7223
www.jrponline.com
You gotta take QEW west.
I've been there once to buy a pair of Sparco gloves and I must say I was mighty impressed with what I saw there. You get practically EVERYTHING connected to racing & rallying.
All the best and have a great day!

My Co-driver and I have Impact Helmets purchased from Grisdale. It fit my fat head much nicer than a Mag4, and the extra cheek support makes it nice and comfy. Also, if you have a wierd shaped head (like me) there are different sizes of cheek cushions to make it fit just right.

If I recall correctly, it's also cheaper than a Mag4. Somewhere in the $250 to $275 range.

Thanks for the leads everybody. I ended up ordering a Pyrotect Open Face SA2005 directly from Bellhelmets.com. I decided I might as well get a SA2005 so I don't have to buy another helment in a few years. It seemed to be the best deal out there for at $174US ($192CDN) total including delivery. I just hope it fits.

See you all July 30th.

Is online registration open for this yet?

I have a car ready, but since my B2200 expired, I no longer have a tow vehicle. I'm looking, but just incase, if anybody is able to tow, and interested, I'd be willing to let you run the car in exchange for a tow up. We can split gas/work something out.
I'm near Brantford.

Question:

Snell helmets only, or just if you have a roll cage?

"Helmets bearing "Snell Memorial Foundation" 1990 M or SA (or more recent) labels must be worn by all drivers and passengers. Only SA-labelled helmets are acceptable for use in cars equipped with roll cages."

I have a friend who is interested in driving, he has a motorcycle helmet... It is the same model as the one used by the 2005 Superbike champion. It is not a snell helmet, it is D.O.T. ~somthing~ and ~somthing aproved~ I can get the details... I'm just wondering if he can race his car with a helmet that does not have a Snell sticker. His helmet is far better than mine, that is for sure!

Thanks!

Just looking for a rough idea of how many people would like to stay at Elmer's Hunt camp on the Saturday night before the rallycross?

And who will be coming that is willing to help out on the day?

I know the rules are the rules and the rules specify Snell approval only, but surely there is an oversight and all CARS accepted helmets would be legal for the Rallycross.
Hopefully arriving with a Peltor and Sparco helmets would be deemed acceptable in a caged car.
A clarification from the series coordinator might be in order, since one never knows
pw.

On the topic of a championship "hotting up" - be sure to check out the close times between competitors.  The difference between 5th and 6th in one instance was but .36 seconds.  (Mabey others had noticed this before, but it was certainly news to me)  Anthony

Would not stopping in the stop box be considered an off couse?  I know there was a pretty big penelty for this in SoloII.  I remember noticing a few cars Sunday not stopping at the end of the course before driving into the parking lot and there are also a fair amound of "off couses" in the scores too.

Just a thought?

BTW - organizers - I loved that layout up top!

Post by dtompsett on 09/02/6 at 13:48:01

Nope... i stopped in the stop box... entered it the correct way too (had that happen last year).

Apparently it came down to someone yelling "Hey, didn't he go the wrong way around there" to which someone else replied "Uhh, ya, I think so".... that is what I was told was the reason for the offcourse... and I know I followed the route exactly.

Thanks as well for an event that went pretty well. I also liked the 2 runs in the pit, 2 runs up top.

It's too bad the ruts keep getting worse. I somehow managed to dismount my front right tire AGAIN, at 44 PSI :( No question about it, rally tires + wheels for next season :P

There was one thing about the weekend that bothered me, mainly the lunch. Some of us were lined up for run #2, and were in the cars when lunch came. We waited until after our run to come get lunch, but by then all the food was gone. We had to drive into town, and while I'm all for supporting the local economy :) it was kind of disappointing.

Perhaps the organizers could use a meal ticket system or mark the wrist bracelets to make sure people get lunch. Also, I asked how much to pay for a passenger to get some lunch too and just got blank stares. I'd highly suggest doing something like Solo 2 events and taking $5 or something for extra meal tickets.

All in all, a good event though and I'll post my bud's pictures as soon as I get them.

Oh and same thing as above for Car #24 (the blue '04 stock WRX), either on the web or e-mail to astapins #AT# rogers &dot& com

Unfortunately (in this respect anyways) the number of entries for this event exceeded our expectations and we simply hadn't ordered enough pizza for that many people. The increased entry also slowed event progression, thus why we chose not to break for lunch. Unfortunately I guess some people missed out, sorry.

Hey, I had gravel tires, the pressure was fine and the rims were speedlines, but still: 1 tire completely off the rim, 2 almopst flat. Although I enjoyed it -- have to say: too ruf.

You might try putting tubes in your tires.  You might also want to consider that you were pushing really hard because frankly, that does not seem normal.   I had gravel tires on crappy steel rims and didn't have any issues - I haven't had any issues in any of the past 6 events with this setup.

There's another way to drive besides pushing hard? What is this other way you speak of? ;D

I'm not too broken up about my problems just because I'm running on all season tires. The thing is, we were car 6 or so on the stage on the first runs through and we (passenger and I) made a decision to push as hard as we could on the first 2 runs, and then back off and try to preserve the car on the last 2 runs when things would get worse.

All of our damage came on the last 2 runs, where I was trying to take it easy but was just getting owned nonetheless. We backed off enough though as we got our flat on the very last run, thank goodness!

Heh, I was speaking to a white STi driver who was at the last Solo2 regional at Mosport. He came out to Bancroft to try it out. He bailed after 2 runs because he thought it would be more like gravel roads.

Personally? I can't wait to see some of our shaky cam, obscenity laden in car movies ;D

Hummmm....

Picture 78 shows why I had rocks stuck in my grill.
Picture 79 shows why I peeled the tire off the rim.

The championship trophies will be handed out at the event.

I'd like to give a big thanks to all the organizers and volunteers who put these events on, in particular James, Ryan , Bryn and Kym. The core organizers arrive two hours before most of the competitors to set up the course and the registration desk area, get coffee and so on. AND then they still have to set up their own cars. During the day they also have to do everything the other competitors do as far as taking their runs, checking their cars/tires etc. PLUS they have to do all the organizational stuff including starting, timing and scoring everyone (and get the pizza for lunch). Then, while everyone else is packing up and heading home, they stay, take everything down and put it all away. On top of that they also did all the preliminary stuff, like securing the venue, doing the official event paperwork, getting the cones and arrows prepared, organising the grader and so on. When you think about it each rallyX a monumental task. Thank God we have a few dedicated people who are willing to do this for free, so we can all have our fun.

:)

Agreed.
I had the chance yesterday to see just how much work it is to put on one of these events, from early morning setup.
Its alot of work, and without the commitment of James, Ryan, Bryn and Kym, these great events would not happen.
We're all indebted to them.
Thanks again for a fun series, and hopefully next year I'll be back, maybe with my kids driving.

Thanks to all the organizers. It's been a great season, and I'm sure you'll all do great jobs again next year ;D

Here's some pics and a few vids of Carl's car. My camera sucks badly in cold weather I'm finding out, I'll post more pictures when my bud gives me his pictures.

Well, the 2006 Four Star Motorsports Rallycross Championship has come to an end, and it was a huge success. There were a lot of great battles for position in each of the 4 classes in the new Championship brought in this year by the organizers. This will defiantly be in place for many years to come.

Thank you

I would like to thank every one that has participated and all the workers that have helped at each event. I would like to point out Alan Ockwell, Kym McIntosh, Ryan Huber, Bryn Epp and Ross Wood for there continued efforts every month to put on this series. Thank you.

Please feel free to email us pictures from all or any of the events for the website and OnRoute: rallycross@mlrc.ca

And it you have any suggestions, let us know as well.

Looking forward to seeing you all in 2007!!

James
