Rallysprint vs Performance TSD

I heard we're making headway re rallysprint.  That's great.

1.  Will it be a rally-X track just with greater speed?

That's great.

2.  On closed stage roads?

So what will price be to competitors?

If performance peformance rally is $400 per competitor and the clubs are losing money,  we know the cost per competitor is very close to the price.

eg.

Price to competitors:  $400
Cost for club/competitor:  $390

Profit:        $10 or 2.5% profit margin.

We can't charge a lower price like $200 because cost is 390$( estimated)

PRO:  as good as it gets without a cage
doesn't tie up time at performance rallies
         volunteers are stretched

CON:  high price, lower turnout

I still think it should be done though.

3.  Alernate strategy:  Peformance TSD at stage rallies

Lower price: say $200

Incremental club cost:  $5

Profit:   $195 or 97.5% profit

The cost to add more competitors to a performance rally is probably about $5, or the cost of the route book.

Whether or not 20 cars show up for the performance TSD, all costs have already incurred, so you might as well try to get as many cars to show up, up to the limit shown in the supp regs.

PRO - max profit, up car counts without incurring extra costs

all cost have already been incurred whether you run the TSD or not

TSD car revenue is pure profit

lower price - higher turnout

CONS:

less time for peformance cars - well they should get used to that,  we want more cars don't we?
sup regs allow caps of 60 cars on some rallies anyways

not enough volunteers - we  shouldn't limit car counts and growth of rallying in ontario

perhaps we should concentrate on getting more volunteers instead of saying we don't want more cars because we won't have engough volunteers

My humble opinion anyways

The cost of adding more competitors to a performance rally is significantly more than $5 since not that many of the costs are actually fixed.  The following are some of the costs that are assessed per entry:

- Insurance
- Levies
- Road damage
- Awards
- Banquet tickets

TSD car revenue is not pure profit.  Some of the fees are lower than the performance cars, but it's still a bunch of variable costs at a lower entry fee.

Fred,

I'm glad you have lots of ideas and the like but you lack a lot of back ground information.

#1  Maple Leaf Rally Club is a not for profit club.  Not For Profit!

#2 Over the past 6 years that I have been on the executive we have never been negative on the year.  Yes some events we may loose money some years but we adjust the the budget the following year to compensate.

#3 MLRC never runs events with out careful consideration for the reputation of the club and the sport.

#4 We offer events at all levels and of all discipline's.

To add to this if my memory serves me correctly you were not at the December AGM.  This is very confusing since you seem to have alot of criticisum of our organizers and methods.  The General and Executive meetings are the correct forum to be bring these concerns up not this Web Forum.
