Title: Rally Cross Schedule
Post by miskis on 04/19/7 at 06:51:59

Hey, I was wondering if the schedule has been released and I just can't find it.  I would like to give a few events a try with my future rally car, see how she handles in the dirt and how I like her.

Two dates have been confirmed for Bancroft - August 26th and October 28th.

Other dates are in the works - more to follow as soon as arrangements are confirmed.

Two more tentative dates at the Burnt River site - July 29th and September 23rd,  pending further arrangements.

Typically rallycross falls on Sundays.

Think about all the poor religious people who miss out cause of the sundays. ;)

Does suck if you have to work... but I doubt you'd get much of a turnout on a monday/tuesday.

Is Burnt Rivers course the one near Barrie? If not, any X-crosses planned there? We had a pretty phenomenal time there last year! :) :) :)

Nik, you should know this... Burnt River is the fenelon falls course... which apparently is undergoing a MAJOR overhaul before the first event.  The course is not to be a car-breaker... some aggreements have been signed with the owners that the course will be in a certain condition or we have the right to refuse and request it be corrected.

I don't have all details/dates... but KWRC/MLRC/PMSC are doing a joint effort... KWRC has a july date at burnt river, MLRC has Bancroft in august, PMSC (you're truely is organizing it) is back at burnt river in september, and then the final MLRC day at bancroft in october.

thanks - that's good to hear :)

Besides being a car-breaker or not, my big concern is always the proximity of trees etc;). I liked the barrie one because only at one point would going off have huge consequences (plus, it's close-by). But I seem to recall parts of Burnt River were also pretty safe from that perspective too...

So it begs the question, why no interest in the Barrie site?

Perhaps if mlrc isn't interested there would be another club willing to step up and organize?

actually I guess that's the original purpose of my post; while I appreciate the info on burnt rivers, that doesn't answer why Barrie site isn' tused; of the three facilities mentioned, Barrie seemed to be not only the closest, on average, to MLRC members, but also to be ideal for rallycrosses (at least in terms of price, proximity, fun & safety - not sure what other factors are, or should be, in the equation).

Was there a disagreement with the owners? Is it a no-go now that Fred is a shunned person? Any info is appreciated - I'm really going to miss it if it doesn't get used this year :)

Part of the probelm may be there is only a small handful people who are organizing these events (within RSO rules). If we want twice the events, we need twice the volunteers.

It looks like Doug has stepped up to take some of the pressure off Ryan and Bryn, and someone from KWRC is stepping up too by the looks of it. This means there will be more people with the experience to organize these events in the future.

I don't know the reason why they are using Burnt River rather than Barrie, but I assume that for whatever reason it is the easier of the two for the organizers to deal with.  It must be the 'path of least resistance'.

I think it's been suggested before, but while I don't have the bandwidth to organize a rallycross, if we instituted a system like at autocross where competitors also marshall/volunteer between the runs, I'm all for it and will be eager to help :).

Ya. I wasn't implying that people didn't volunteer to marshal at the events. From what I've seen everyone who attends is more than willing to help out. I was lamenting the lack of people who are willing to give up days of their free time to organize one of these events for no pay. Not that I'm one to talk - I've helped organize stage rallys, but not rallyx's. We're lucky to have people like Ryan, Ross and Bryn (and Doug even though he's PMSC) around.

Let's not forget James Drake in organizing the rally-xs as well.

As for Barrie - only speculation here as I was not in attendance at the one event held there.  I seem to recall discussion about how Burnt River had much more long term potential then the Barrie track.  Things I remember hearing was there there were more couse layout options and the ground was much harder (something Bancroft rallyx participants often yearn for).  The Burnt River people also seem very keen to work with us rally folk.

As for the Fred speculation - I beleive Fred had a hand in finding both the Barrie and Burnt River courses.  I give the organizers credit in not shunning a particular course over another because of who found it.

Having more organizers from different clubs (like KWRC/PMSC/SPDA etc...) will definately be a good thing and may make things easier to run more events at multiple venues.   If you go look at the RSO  meeting minutes for April 2007 (www.rallysport.on.ca), you'll see that RSO is working on developing a bigger rally-x series working with multiple clubs of which Ross Wood would be the series coordinator.

There is no way I can make it to all of them... I'll be enjoying the beautiful Prussian girls in July!

Have you guys considered counting only '3 best' events for the championship?

I'd like to second this motion as I too will have a heavy travel schedual this summer and cannot make all four events (but will be at the other three, pending repairs to the Golf).

Unlike Leo, I won't be eyeing Prussian girls, but those from California.
