Title: BLACK BEAR WORKER NOTICE June 10 07
Post by rosswood on 06/10/7 at 22:22:44

If you are receiving this message it means that I have you on my list as
assisting in some way or other with the Black Bear Rally, presented by Four
Star Motorsports (www.fourstarmotorsports.com) & Hot Bits Sport Suspensions
(www.hotbits.ca) in Dorset this weekend. If that is not correct, please
advise me ASAP.

Things are shaping up very well for the rally this weekend.  The roads are
probably in the best shape they have been in years.  Ril Lake in particular,
which was so so rough last year that we had almost decided to cut it out
this year,  underwent very extensive improvements over the winter, due to a
logging operation.  It is now in the best condition of all the roads.

The entry is reasonable - we would always like more, but it is a bit better
than last year.  The Seeded Draw is tomorrow (Monday) evening,  so there may
be a few more yet.  The big news is that Travis Pastrama/Christian Edstrom
are entered.  Travis is the U.S. motocross superhero turned rallyist.  He
took the U.S. rally scene by storm last year by winning the U.S.
Championship - youngest driver ever to do so.  Travis & Christian are here
primarily because of a new feature of our event this year - two pass recce.
Every team will have the opportunity to drive the stages twice before the
competition to write their own stage notes - once on Friday evening and a
second time early Saturday AM.  Travis & Christian are taking the
opportunity to develop this skill, as very few U.S. events offer two pass
recce.

There are many different worker assignments this weekend including:

Registration

Scrutineering

Scoring

Course Cars

Friday stage preparations (beginning at 10:30 A.M.)

Friday stage recce supervision (5:00 P.M.)

Saturday stage recce supervision (6:45 A.M.)

General Worker Meeting - (9:30 A.M.)

Afternoon only Stage Worker Meeting (by request) - 1:30 P.M.

Many of you have already contacted me to volunteer for special duties, such
as Friday jobs and the 6:45 A.M Saturday shift.  If you have not and are
available, please let me know.

All worker meetings will take place in the parking lot across from the Frost
Centre on Hwy. 35.  It is located 23 km north of Carnarvon and 11 km south
of Dorset.  Unfortunately I do not have the GPS coordinates for that
location at this moment. Hopefully I will be able to provide that in my
Worker Message later in the week.  When you arrive please present yourself
immediately to me by the big white RSO trailer,  sign your waiver and get
your worker assignment.

For those of you who are HAM radio operators the primary frequency this year
will be 146.775-  We will also be using some simplex frequencies - 146.580
and 146.520

Be sure to come prepared for the weather.  Bring lots of food and drink,
writing utensils,  clipboard & paper, chairs etc.  The bugs were not bad at
all a week ago,  but it would be best to come prepared with bug repellant.

All workers are invited back to the Awards Banquet (free of course) at Rally
Headquarters in Dorset after the event.

There will be one more  Worker Message later in the week - Wednesday or
Thursday.

Ross Wood,  Chief Marshal
