Saturday Sept 22

In the usual location in Bancroft.

Registration will open at 10:00am at the regular Bancroft location
at the Dungammon Recreation Center, 13km south of Bancroft, on Hwy#62
in the town of L'Amable

The 3rd event of the Series is organized by Peterborough Motor Sports Club

Hey noob question. I have a 1990 Audi coupe Quattro, and i would like to get into rally. Can any register for this event? What are the vehicle requirments? Any info would be great thanks.

Hello!

Yes, anyone can register for the event, no problem there. Usually every event we have one or two competitors who've never done it before.

There are no special vehicle requirements, other than it be safe and not completely falling apart and not extremely loud. Bsically the usual road worthyness stuff, but you don't need to actually have plates on the car as you won't be going on public roads during the event.

You'll need a helmet, Snell M or SA 95 minimum standard.

I'm sure Doug will chime in at some point, he's an Audi guy too ;)

we've got one, but with another we can take a passenger as well...

Hi

The rally cross is great venue to learn what your car will do on gravel.

Excellent way to be introduced into rallying.
The competitors are always willing to help through your first event.

From previous Audi experience, if you have an aluminium oil pan, you may consider a basic skid plate/under car protector.

As to your car requirements, a working seat belt is a must.

You can also pick up a cheap used set of gravel rally tires, or even new ones. Changes your handling, and reduces the chance of a puncture.

Usually there are lots of people willing to lend a helmet for a passenger ride, that's not a big deal. The clubs don't have any loaner helmets, but I'm sure someone would lend you one.

My runs #2, 3 and 4. I messed up the camera for #1, ran out of space partway through #3, grinded 1st gear in #4, each run has 1 to 2 mistakes in it, and some wussiness. WARNING, I swear at least once in each video.

Hi all,

I only got video of 3 of my runs, as the camera came loose on my second run and it's extremely "Blair Witch", impossible to watch without getting sick... However...

Run 1, with the camera on the roof pointing forward, to give an idea of the course layout. I was car 29, so things were already pretty torn up.

Run 3, just after they'd re-graded the track and we were in reverse order, so super smooth for me. My fastest run, FTD, as I was able to drive my own lines and not be forced to drive the lines others had taken and made ruts. This is the most impressive video of the day too, I love this angle!

Run 4, on the second course in the gravel pit. Once again in reverse order, I had great course conditions down here as well. I tried the helmet-cam again for this run, I keep aiming it too low, but it's still pretty cool.

I cannot believe how much power that car has Ryan. Holy crap. One of the Cougar co-drivers went for a run in my car and said it "pulls". I should have directed him to you :D

This RallyX was really the one where Mark & I were going to battle it out for 2nd overall in Class 4. I came into it with the objective of driving clean, no major mistakes and do well. If Mark did better than me, it was pretty much over since I don't have the valuable 2 points for missing event 2.

Thanks to Nick Matthews for breaking things up, things are much more interesting for the last event now. I'm trying to go through the math, but I think Mark is effectively 1 point up on me going into the last event. It should make for an entertaining day!

I had an awesome time... To all those people that lent helmets/gave rides to new folks, the organizers, etc - you guys rocked - I saw some very big smiles.

Now to find a ride for the next one - I don't think I can subject the passat to that anymore without any [expensive] ill effects! It sure as hell isn't designed for that, nor are any repairs cheap. (like the plastic for the rear wheel well, which I cracked is 176$)
