Title: What to do??
Post by miskis on 11/30/7 at 14:34:09

I was just asked to Navigate for the Maniwaki rally this year, I did tall Pines last year and have done a handfull of Navigational rallies with many success.  I am also a ice racer during the winter months, so I will have to miss a race weekend to go to this event.  I only get 1 or 2 weekends a winter which I am free to enjoy, and I only have a small budget to work with.  I have never done Maniwaki, but have watched it on the CRC TV shows and it looks like fun.  I am concerned with having a off, and being stuck in the freezing cold, waiting to be pulled out.  I have a suit that meets the requirments for the rules, but I don't have a helmet that works for rallying.  So there a few bumps in the road, being new to the sport and low on funds I wanted some other opinions.  This year the event falls on my B-day and I know the Fiance is planning a surprise B-day party for me, but she just dosent know that I know.  So, my big problem is Should I make the trip and go to Maniwaki or skip it this year?

Sorry if it sounds like a rant, I just would like to try this rally but I have concerns.  Just looking for some opions and guidance.

Helmets can be borrowed, credit card limits can be upped, and if she's a fiance, then doubt she'll leave you just cause you want to take off for a weekend even if it interferes with her plans for you.

Question is... can you afford to up the credit card limit?  Do you want to spend your birthday in the freezing backwoods of Quebec?  Can you afford to take the time off work?

Don't forget in your budget planning... fuel to/from event, snacks along the way, etc.

Like I said... Helmets are easy to come by... the rest you have to decide.

The Food & Fuel is not really a problem, neither is the taking time off work.  if anything it would only be for the friday, and I have Vacation days for that.  I accept the fact that she will get over it, as well as anyone else so that is not my big concern really.  Its either Spend my Birthday in the freezing Backwoods of Minden, or the freezing Backwoods of Quebec.  It comes down to Splitting Entry fee if the driver wants to, or spliting any other rallying costs to encure.  I had already budgeted for some ice racing, I would just move the money over to Rallying.  I don't know...I guess I still have a tough decision ahead of me.

While I'm on the Topic, does anyone have a Helmet for rent for Maniwaki.  I don't know what type of communication the car has yet, But I will find out soon.

I can't imagine that you wouldn't enjoy Perce Neige.  The organizers and workers that we have met are all first class people and very good at what they do.

The fans are really increditable as well.

Many of the stages are classic Canadian winter rally stages which competitors talk about year after year.

It can be really really cold but it reaches a point that it doesn't matter all that much.  Make sure you throw some extra warm clothing and boots in the trunk and you should be fine.

I  haven't done ice race since the early 1970s so I don't remember all that much about that but it would seem to me that at Perce Neige you will get the equivalent of about 20 ices races for your full day of competition.

Perce Neige really is a must for any semi serious Canadian ralliest that can get there.

During the German occupation, one of Sartre's philosophy students asked him if he would advise joining the Resistance despite his mother's insistence that he not.

Sartre responded that the student had already made a free decision to join the Resistance as evidenced by the fact that he had approached himself, Sartre, a founding member of Socialisme et Liberté  - a (short-lived) Resistance group.

You didn't post your question at "Brides' Weekly" - you posted here.  Get on with it.  It'll be a blast.

If you're involved in motorsports, you already know that birthday celebrations can be pushed ahead or back a week, because great opportunities need to be worked around!

Like the others said, make sure you pack a really warm coat and boots in the trunk "just in case" and go for it!

If it were me, and I only had a couple of weekends to fill with fun stuff, Perce Neige would be one of them!  ;D

well After a weekend of Thinking about it and disucssing it with other friends, I think I'm going to do it.  I already have my First aid course booked, and I might as well get the full year Lisence so that I can do any others in the summer if the oppertunity arises.  Thanks everyone for you thoughts and opinions, I look forward to the Perce-Neige now especially after the weekend snowfall.  Now to start the thread looking to Borrow/Rent a helmet.

A rally thread in which the French Résistance and Jean-Paul Sartre are both mentioned in a post has to be a first. Then, towards the end of the post, Bride's Weekly came up too. Amazing, really.
