Title: 2008 MCO Winter Driving Schools Post by 1morelap on 01/10/8 at 23:34:32 The Motorsport Club of Ottawa offers a superb opportunity to learn the basics of winter driving techniques. The courses are held at the Captial City Speedway in Stittsville, on a closed course. Our one day course offers lots of seat time driving on ice and snow. Students learn in their own cars through a combination of in-car instruction and exercises. MCO is a non-profit club run by volunteers, this is our opportunity to give back to the community. Sunday January 20th, Saturday January 26th Sunday February 10th, Saturday February 16th Course Costs: $125 Members of the MCO, ASN, students and seniors. $150 non-members Register now! To learn car control on snowy and icy conditions Gain confidence in winter driving conditions To learn effective skid control and stopping techniques Topics covered in detail include: Winter Driving Basics Ergonomics Traction Braking (4 wheel lock-up, no wheel lock-up, pumping pedal, ABS, Snow bank braking) Skid Control (front wheel skid, rear wheel skid, skid control, steering during skids) Cornering Techniques Slalom Accident Avoidance What you'll need: drive your own vehicle appropriate outdoor clothing driver's license and insurance Course Availability: The school is held based on demand (course requires at least 10 students), and dependant on track conditions provided by Mother Nature. Courses are held in January and February of each winter. Check our Calendar for details on each school date. Directions: From Ottawa, take the 417 West, Track is 5km from the ScotiaBank Place. Take Highway 7 towards Carleton Place/Toronto. Continue on Highway 7 a few KM until you reach the signs on your right hand side, turn right (north) at Spruce Ridge and immediately left( west) on the access road to the main gate Click here for location!! Course Outline: The school is a full day school. Students are expected to arrive around 8:00am, as the school starts at 8:30 sharp. The school runs all day, and is usually completed well before 16:00. A one hour lunch break is held at close to 12:00 noon. A typical schedule of events for the day may look like the following, but is subject to change without notice: 08:30 - 08:45 Introductions 08:45 - 09:15 Theory session 09:15 - 09:30 Instructor familiarization 09:30 - 10:00 Braking demonstration and practice 10:00 - 10:45 Skid control 10:45 - 11:30 Cornering 11:30 - 12:30 Lunch 12:30 - 13:15 Practice your vehicle 13:15 - 13:30 Briefing 13:30 - 14:15 Slalom 14:15 - 15:00 Accident avoidance 15:00 - 15:30 Practice 15:30 - 16 :00 Debrief. Next attempt is Jan, 26th. Our Chief Registrar, Ann Heide will re-schedule each student as possible. Out intent is reschedule the schools as the weather, and track return. New dates are being looked at right now Mr. Green If you have not been contacted by me, or Sam, or Paul to volunteer as an instructor, or worker, please let me know..
