Title: WTB: Rallycross car
Post by RyanHuber on 03/23/8 at 12:42:32

Hi all, I posted this on the rally-ontario email list but figured I'd throw it on the forums as well.

A few friends and I are pondering something different for this summer's rallycross season. We're thinking of going in on a car together, but it needs to be unique...

That's right, we're looking for something American, RWD, honkin V8 under the hood, and above all, CHEAP!

So, does anyone have any lines on old Caprice Classics, or Crown Vics, or Grand Marquis, or some other brutish hulk that would be absurd when fitted with gravel tires, a Lincoln Locker and side pipes? ;) We're not talking fast, we're talking rooster tails!

It doesn't have to be in great shape, heck, after the summer I can pretty much guarantee it won't be anyways. It needs to run, have brakes that work (mostly) and not much else. Automatic preferred (all the better to do brake stands on the start line with!) It won't be licensed so that kind of stuff will not be a concern.

Anyway, please let me know if you have any ideas, I'd appreciate it!

Have you called any of the wreakers around Bancroft?  That will make getting it to the site that much easier...

I figure it's going to need some prep work to get it ready anyways, which might be easier to do down here. We'll see what comes up though, that may be an option closer to the events if we don't have anything yet.

I f you are interested, I will find out where it is and look at it for you.

That glued on hood scoop is right in tune with your intended use  ;D

Here are a few more, but too far for me to look into for you:

Interesting... That's a newer version of what Jessie drove last year at some of the events. It would appear that this one doesn't have the dreaded supercharged motor that came in the Thunderbird, that thing's awful from what I've read. I'm gonna keep my eyes on it and I'll let you know if I'd like you to have a look Dave, thanks

Hey Ryan
The son of a colleague of mine is selling a 1988 Lincoln Mark VII, 5. 0 L engine, V8.
I don’t have much info on it right now but I have uploaded pictures to the link below;

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/612498/7

I believe he is asking 900$ o.b.o.
The car isn’t in great shape, so you wont feel bad destroying it.
It runs, but has trouble starting in the cold.  Warm summer days are no problem.
The car in the parking lot at work in markham (woodbine/14th area).

Oh you've *got* to get a Crown Vic - police pursuit edition - snag one before the cabbies get their hands on it.

It's got cop wheels...

Robin

Jon, you have a PM. That's tempting...

I see your PM and raise you one.

Hmmm, I hadn't realized that the Mark VII has air springs. That is a concern, because I highly doubt they'd take the abuse of rallycross pounding...

eck, I didn't realize any Lincoln MKs had air springs. :(

Yeah, all the Mk VII do. I don't think the Cougar did (which shares the platform), but doing a conversion would probably end up being a nightmare. Well, I'll have a look anyway, but that'll probably end up being the deal breaker. We shall see...

This is what you really want - a '74 Dodge Monaco

http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd311/longhairedleapinknown/blbro01-1.jpg

As Elwood Blues states in the ol' Blues Bros flick
"It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant. It's got cop tires. Cop suspension. Cop shocks. It's the model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas."

And Anthony wins post of the month award for a Blues Brothers reference.

Erik - A Monaco would be great fun at Mosport too!
