Camping...

Yes, that right people. If you are looking at not having to make the drive upto Bancroft on the Sunday morning and you do not want to pay for a hotel, we have the answer. Camping.

The great Golton family is allowing us to camp at the rallycross site (in the back, by the nice trees) the night before the events.

Please email me at rallycross@mlrc.ca if you are interested / times / location etc. etc.

We will be having a "johnny on the spot" available for use as well.

Thank you
James

Now that sounds like fun times and a great deal too!  I wonder if this would make a good solution to high priced accomodations on Pines weekend?

Let's see now - July vs November camping for Pines - NOT (bring your longjohns Anthony)

Seriously Anthony, you honestly want to tell me that its not worth the cost to have a bed after spending 14 hours being smashed around in an early 80's V-Dub?

Which reminds me, I should book rooms now!

Well, a few years back English convinced to go see the the cars run at Castledine's Corner after we had finished our duties for the day.  I knew I had to drive back to North Bay that night - oh well, I said, I can pull it off.  Later that night, I was sleeping with my head on the steering wheel of the Miata in the Carnarvon Esso parking lot.

Later I learned that it's far easier to sleep in the Miata if you drape your legs over the tranny tunnel and rest your hear against the driver's door and seat.

Anyways..........  I did freeze in the miata so perhaps it would be a touch cold.

Now James, Don't you think you could expect a better camper turnout if you would arrange a "Timmys on the
Spot" so the campers can have a hot coffee.
We at PMSC would much appreciate your having servers there to attend to our needs as well...

Anthony, did you buy a tent or are you going to camp out in the Miata again?

Hey Ryan,

I booked a room at the Sword Friday night... If its a double, your more then welcome to a bed (but I'm camping saturday night, like all the cool people - I just figured a bed would be worth it after driving the mazda all the way up there, then all day), just let me know and I'll call and find out...

Jamie - my mazda actually works now - Gardhouse

Is the surface at the new location anything like the old location?

ie, similair mix of loosely packed sand and gravel?

Thanks

;D

Title: Re: 2008 RSO FourStar Rallycross Championship
Post by RyanHuber on 07/16/8 at 23:29:42

At the moment it is a little rough in a few spots, but we're going to have it smoothed out before the first event. It's largely sandy dirt, with some gravel sections and at this point probably a fair bit of tall grass. I don't expect the large rocks to come up like they did running in the pit.

Our plan is to lay out a track like we did in the winter (but more open) with lots of different loops and types of corners so on any given weekend we can pick and choose which sections we want to use.

Here's a horrible panorama I took back in the spring when we went up to have a look at it. Note that the concrete pads next to my car are no longer there, and the crusher I'm standing on to take the photo is gone too.

Looks like there will be a strong camping contingent on both Friday and Saturday nights! So strong in fact, that I cancelled my hotel room!

Now, all we need is the weather and my new transmission to co-operate!

Great job as always James, and everyone else who stood out there all day in the dust and rain so we could play! I had an absolute blast battling with John all day. I just wish a certain black Subie that always used to kick my butt would come back out to play with us! I miss my yardstick!  :D

Unfortunately I didn't get any video this time around, though I promise to have my camera fixed for the next one. Let's see those photos!

The track held up quite well. Times were relatively consistent throughout the day although there was one particularly sandy section that got really rutted, but I didn't see a lot of big rocks being pulled up as was common at the gravel pit. There was an occasional light rain which helped keep the dust down.

Title: Re: 2008 RSO FourStar Rallycross Championship
Post by RyanHuber on 07/30/8 at 14:39:06

Yeah, there were a couple spots that got a bit rutted, but actually more just dug out than rutted. The whole apex of the corner would just be a bit of a hole, rather than a set of ruts that could steer the car like we had at Dungannon. I'm optimistic that with some slight changes to a few corners every event, and re-arranging how we run it, we can keep the conditions reasonable. There was a very distinct lack of "thunk" and "bang" noises on the bottom of the car, which was nice. My front bumper is a little worse for wear, but that's mainly because I used it to cut down some 1/2" diameter trees...

I want to race on Sunday with you guys but have a couple questions.
I've never raced rallycross or other so this will be my first time out and will probably baby the car.
1. Unlicensed car - can I enter it? Its safe to drive and all that, I just assume I'll need to install a fire extinguisher?
2. Co Driver - I want to take turns driving with my buddy. This happen much?
3. Anyone have a car trailer for sale?

Title: Re: 2008 RSO FourStar Rallycross Championship
Post by SchwarzIX on 08/25/8 at 09:17:59

oh and can anyone rent me a couple helmets?

Title: Re: 2008 RSO FourStar Rallycross Championship
Post by RyanHuber on 08/25/8 at 15:33:11

Hi,

Unlicensed cars are fine, we do check for basic safety stuff. You don't need an extinguisher in the car. Yes, you can have multiple drivers in one car (max of 3), we'll separate you in the run order so that you have time to swap around without holding things up. People do it all the time. There may be someone there with helmets you could rent/borrow, but it may be best to try to come up with something ahead of time. If you're not going to be in a caged car then a basic M2005 helmet is probably pretty cheap.

Thank you workers and organizers for a great event, at least from their perspective  :P

Thanks to everyone and specifically Norm, Dean and Jeff for helping me out, and Norm & Dean again for driving behind me to Peterborough. I made it the rest of the way back, corded my one donut, and I swapped out the gravels 3x on the way back to minimize the damage to the tires.

I have vids of my run, and I think I see the big hit in run 5 that did the damage  >:(, but I have to get up early tomorrow. Bleh.

BTW Jeff, I didn't use your tire/wheel, the wear was really horrible and I survived on the gravels. I didn't want to destroy your tire. But man were they ever noisy...

Looking at the five day forcast - camping this weekend is going to be . . . character building.

Have you spoken to Elmer lately?

I am looking into the Hunt camp, I need to confim later today but Cycil thinks there are people in there this weekend.

We might just have to build character :)

I am sad to say, but the hunt camp is going to be full this weekend and MLRC is not going to able to get room.

So...you can either camp, or rent a room at many of the hotels/B&B's in Bancroft.

I've let Roger know, but there are some errors in these. Nick Mathew didn't run the last event, and nobody got their start points for a 4th event if points were dropped (I don't think that one makes any differences in classes though).  Should be corrected shortly.
