Post by English on 01/04/9 at 22:23:30

Welcome to the 2009 MLRC FourStar Rallycross Championship!!

ONLINE ENTRY OPEN!!

http://www.mlrc.ca/rallycross/entryform.html

The experience and the excitement of rally driving at a really low cost!!

Four Star Motorsports and the Maple Leaf Rally Club are proud to bring you yet another rallycross season: the 2009 MLRC FourStar Rallycross Championship.

Three big changes to talk about this year.

1, MLRC will be running the full championship. As there were no other clubs interested in running rallycross events under RSO, we here at MLRC decided (with the permission of RSO) to take over the Championship.

2, We will be holding 5 events and the Championship will be over the entire year.

3, We going back to Burnt River. In the summer we are hoping to go back to Burnt River for one of the summer events. A lot of work has been going on there and we are looking forward to ripping up some new land.

DATES AND LOCATIONS FOR 2009:

  • January 25th - BANCROFT - Fish and Game Club / Golton Stage

  • February 15th - BANCROFT - Fish and Game Club / Golton Stage

  • July 26th - BANCROFT - Fish and Game Club / Golton Stage

  • September 27th - BURNT RIVER Off Road Vehicle Facility

  • October 18th - BANCROFT - Fish and Game Club / Golton Stage

Rallycross Website Fully up and running: www.mlrc.ca/rallycross

Sign up per race for only $55 if you pre-register online, and $60 if you register at the event. Event-day registration will open at 9:30am, driver's meeting at 10:30, and the first car will start at 11:00am.

This series continues to provide an opportunity for future rally stars to get their feet wet. No special vehicle preparation is required - regular street cars are permitted. The low entry fees and minimal car prep mean that the Rallycross series will provide an affordable introduction to rallying for drivers of all budgets and skill levels.

Vehicles are divided into four classes to level the playing field and provide good competition within each group. Class one includes all front wheel drive cars, Class two is all rear wheel drive. Class three is for non-turbo four wheel drive and last but not least, Class four to for all the turbo four wheel drive cars. All colours, shapes and sizes of cars can compete in rallycross.

Contact our championship coordinator, James Drake, at rallycross@mlrc.ca for more information.

We look forward to seeing you soon!!

Thanks. Got it now.

Is it true there were no DNF's or DNS's?

That must be a first, particularly with 32 cars and 6 runs each.

Looks like a great turn out for the first Four Star Motorsports rally cross.  I hope all had fun.

There needs to be more time in the day so I can find and build a car for the second winter rally cross event.

Thanks to everyone that worked the cold event.

3 people max per car, generally.

Word on the street is that there is still snow, but a truck may sand the course if it looks like it might end up super polished.

Hope this helps.

And can I drive your car too?  ;D

Already signed up, and getting the car setup!

This is gonna be my first gravel rally, so I'm pretty pumped!

Anything special that I should be aware of compared to the winter rally?

I don't have to watch out for snowbanks, but I'm wondering if there's new things to worry about.

It was a lot of fun, but somehow felt really anti-climatic with it getting cut short. Not that I was going to get any faster. I was mildly surprised every time I finished and the car was still in one piece, I'm definitely fabricating a skid plate before the next event.

haha. you're sure about that eh?  ;)

yeah, i had just changed up my tires and was stoked to slide through some mud... i think it was a good call for everyone's safety to hold up during the lightning strikes, but the water on the course wasnt thaaaat bad.

when i did my fun lap im sure i did at least 10 seconds better then i did on my 4th... plus it didnt rain anymore after that. oh well. only 8 weeks till the next one

The problem was not so much that people couldn't make it around the course per se. The problem was the conditions were changing so rapidly that one car might get a really good time, then it would start raining again and the next car would be a minute slower than normal. Scoring in those conditions would be very unfair. If it had been consistently wet or consistently dry it might have been a level playing field.

Also if someone was really competitive they might have been tempted to push well beyond their car/tires limits for those conditions and would be more likely to do some serious damage. Giving people fun runs allowed them to play/test/learn without having to worry about getting a good time.

Personally, when I took my fun run I tried to see if I could get around the course without sliding off (i.e. to finish first, first you must finish) which meant I was probably going a lot slower than most people around the corners but I didn't spend a lot of time spinning my wheels trying to get out of mud holes like I saw a lot of other people doing.

Is it just me, or are the links not setup?

I had to do some guessing, as the link for the results isn't showing up for me, but I made it to the http://www.mlrc.ca/rallycross/results/2009/Rallycross-Jul.26.09_WEB.pdf page.

When I clicked the Standings link though, I just get "Championship Standings

Championship standings will be posted after each event. Please check Results page for latest results and Championship Standings".

Anyone else getting this? I'll try again tomorrow to see if its worked itself out...

I'm really surprised/excited that I'm tied for first in my class! I guess as long as you show up to each race, you can do fairly well!

Can't wait to see what the Burnt River course is going to be like.

Hope to see you all out again in 2 months!

Had a question. A Friend of mine wants to runs a custom build "dune buggy" with a subaru power train. It has a tube chasis and he asked me and I did not know. it doesn't have any doors or windows etc... just wondering if he would be allowed to race it?

Title: Re: 2009 MLRC FourStar Rallycross Championship!!

Hey Cory,

The following was taken out of the rules section:

"Vehicles must be based on a production, closed body and chassis to compete."

So a dune buggy is no go...Would be pretty sweet to see it race, as I'm sure its light as hell, and if a Subie powertrain, its probably packing at least a little power :D

Hey everyone,

With less then a month till the next rally-x, has anyone been to the Burnt River off road facility this year to check out the rally course? I heard they were doing a bunch of work on it, so wanted to know if anyone's had any experience with it. Is it tougher on the car then the course in Bancroft? Longer, shorter?

I've tried looking for youtube videos, but have only found the dirt bike course. While all those bikes did look like fun, I don't think my subie would take flying 50ft through the air quite as well.

That course has not been run yet - it was run in the winter, though (before they ran into some zoning issues).

I'm sure James or Ross will be able to chime in as to the specifics of the course.

Guessing you didn't make it out to the last race. It got SLOPPY with the rain we had last time! They had to call the race after everyone got 3 laps.

I've still got mud in my engine bay and other nooks and crannies from the last event :-?

Generally they let you drop one event in case you can't make it or have technical difficulties (i.e. a really bad day), so it should read best four-out-of-five (it actually says that at the top of the championship standings PDF), so I don't think anyone can catch you or Sean.

I would just like to thank everyone that ran the rallycross. James you did a great job in your roles. For myself it has been a great experence for me. It was so much fun and same time a humbling. The skill of the drivers in all classses were amazing. My goal now is to make into the top 25. Cu in a few weeks

I agree the rallyx was VERY well put together. This year was my first year out and hope to have many more. The turn outs were great and I am sure that fun was had by all. See you guys on Jan 24th.

When in doubt... FLAT OUT

For sure... it was a great year, and with the earlier starting of the events and cheaper online registration things should run even smoother in 2010. Keep it up james  ;)
