Title: Black Bear Roads
Post by rosswood on 05/22/10 at 07:58:08

I drove all the Black Bear roads yesterday posting road closure notices. They were just graded earlier this week and are in really good condition.

The new stage, Moccasin Lake, is a classic - don't know how we never found it before - credit goes to John Vanos for discovering it last fall. It's very similar to the Lavant Mills road for part of it but has a section that is much wider and faster, though far from straight, with greater changes in elevation. Cannot wait to hear competitor comments.

Of course the remaining stages are the Egan Creek classics that have been in the Pines for 30+ years.

BTW absolutely zero bugs out there yesterday, even though it was hot. And I did come across a real live black bear on the road. He (she?) quickly bounded off into the woods.

Great to hear!  Did you come across any turtles?

Didn't see any turtles on the rally roads, although I did see one crossing Hwy. 62.
