Title: Final Drive Ratio - 97 Outback
Post by Dave Cotie on 10/12/10 at 18:47:38

Yea, I know I am annoying.

Anyway 97 Outback most of what I have read indicates that it should have a 3.90:1 FD, but the FSM that I downloaded last night (thanks Ryan) indicates that a 97 had a 4.11:1 FD.

Any Subaru techs or geeks that can confirm for sure? I am looking to pick-up a used tranny and need to know before the weekend.

It seems that my Outback is geared pretty low, but I think it would be hard to tell the difference between a 3.90 and a 4:11 just by feel.

According to The Yeti its 4.11:

You know Dave, you might want to sign up on that site.

Should be 4.11.

Most/all Naturally Aspirated Subarus with 5 spds are 4.11.

Best sure fire way to tell is to get the Transmission code off the VIN plate in the engine bay, and plug it into google.  You'll likely get your answer.
