Title: mlwr updates?
Post by dtompsett on 01/16/11 at 18:05:12

So... any event updates so far?  Still got the 2010 Sup Reg's posted (can we expect any changes?)... and what about the entry list so far?

One month to go!

Doug, who are you entering with? I'm all set with a teammate, just have to file the entry.

Leo.   ;D

Oh wow, that should be fun! Nick Narini and I will hope to give you both a run for it.

Leo's got a good navvie in you, for sure... I had a great time two years ago, and have never had such a good result.

Excellent match for those two teams!  Good luck to both. Go show some of the ORRC regulars what you can do.

Um, Ross, you may change your mind when you hear I'm driving and Nick is navigating... :D

hmm, with you guys entering it's tempting me to do the same, although I am supposed to do car 99...

What about running totally unequipped?  no driving lights no auxillary odos, just the driver and navvie to keep you on time(ish)

I've been wanting to do something like that for a long time, would keep the event a little more open and the speeds harder to zero

It'd save me having to mount and wire your lights on your car too! ;)

Now we're talking - a real challenge with handicaps (unequipped etc). Reminds me of Buffums winter event in the U.S. - used to be you had a choice - you could either run studded tires or lights, but not both.

That has been something on my mind a bit as well... Though I want to win overall before I start handicapping myself. Next year, I promise...  :P

Wimp.

Any takers?  If we got 4-5 of us i'd do it!

I'm in for no extra lights, if we get enough people

I'm sorry for the local trees!

Do it John, Em and I can cover 99 for you ;)

As long as we don't have excuses after you get beat by novices with a Terratrip.   :D

NO! no handicaps. Its bad enough that the pros are going to make us look silly. But to do it with handicaps...oh the shame. lol

Seriously though, this is very exciting to be taking part in a rally with some people who i've greatly respected and admired for years. Now if only i stood a chance  ;)

So who's gonna be the judge of lighting?  Lighting on newer cars is vastly better than lighting on old cars... so someone in a new car would have an unfair advantage.  (Then again... what if someone modified their headlights to have a better output... fond memories of my old Audi 4kq with BMW dual rounds and H4 + H1 conversion kits... stock wattage bulbs outshone Hella 4000's!)

And... as the navigator... I have to say no way am I doing this thing without a computer!

Title: Re: mlwr updates?
Post by John_Vanos on 01/19/11 at 13:00:09

If we did this it should be pretty informal....if you're judged by your peers to have anything that is unfair like lights then we'll ensure only one of them works!

I was just looking to see if there were a few people who wanted an extra challenge as the rally has been easier to be close to the CAS in recent years

Yes, John, that's why I agreed. Common, we can do it!!

Need more people!!

He doesn't care about lights, he just needs his computer.

i was talking no lights OR odo's!!!

Title: Re: mlwr updates?

no deal.

I like Ross' point about Buffum's event... lights or computer... but not both?

Title: Re: mlwr updates?
Post by Dean Campbell on 01/19/11 at 16:34:21

Actually, Buffum's event was lights or tires, but not both... I'd take tires, in a heartbeat!

I know it was lights or tires... but I was using the lights or computer arguement.

Even though I am not sure I am entering, I like the idea of no lights and no odo. I haven't mounted my lights and I don't have an odo!  ;D

You should come! What if I need a trailer again?!

Can't go with no odo - if we do, there's no way to ZERO, which means it will just turn into a stupid go as fast as you dare without lights night. Fun - yes, but I really wanted to get a hang of the whole driveX thing, where you have to go fast with no wheel spin, etc.

Title: Re: mlwr updates?
Post by dtompsett on 01/19/11 at 22:33:41

There will be no talk of "needing a trailer"!

(Besides... didn't I mention... dad's gotten a trailer.  And we both know the farm is 'fairly' close to Bancroft... just gotta limp it there.)

No Wheel spin??  What the matter with you !!   ;D    I don’t know how fast it is going to be this year, but when me and few others (you know who they are) used to do it, it was wheel spin all the way, because you went flat out to try and keep “0” for all check points. I used to have two wheel spin factors for the timewise, one for “transits or slower parts” and other one for “old hastings and similar roads” where wheel spin was 50% on those roads.  Those were the good times !!!!
