UPDATE <5:00 I did it under the five

<5:00 I did it under has been a very popular posting to visit. I am sure many just curious about what it meant.

GCFR are pleased to announce that on the 10th running of GCFR
Chris Martin along with his Co-driver Brian Johnson broke the <5:00 barrier

Chris and Brian finished Special Stage 6 of GCFR with a time of 4:55.6 minutes an average speed for the stage of 102.18 KPH

Congratulations Guys on a Fantastic run. I am hoping that possibly you have in car video that you maybe willing to share

I don't know if they have in-car, but following behind them we could plainly see they were going for it on the last two stages! There were many new rocks pulled out of the ditches that hadn't been there before, obviously they were cutting a lot! That was a brave tactic considering they didn't carry a spare out of service. It paid off though in an amazing stage time, well done guys!

Ryan

Peter,
Can you check out the results from the first year and see what the fastest time was? I know the road has slowly improved over the years but not by that much.

The road has improved hugely from when it started....I was just watching incar of me in 2005 that I found the other day and it is hugely faster, particularly because it is wider and they've straightened some corners as well.  i'll see if I can post it so people can compare

That said 4:55 is a hugely fast time and Chris/Brian deserve full credit for laying it on the line to set that time!

Here is the link to our in-car.

Stage A6 should be at the top of the list, but it's easy to find.

I seem to have missed A3, and unfortunately looks like I got a big smudge on the lense, so the quality at some point went down.

None the less, it did take us a bit to get really "warmed up" on Saturday, but the last 3 stages felt really good.   5:01 on the way in on stage A5 certainly felt really good as well.

Congrats to Ryan/John who did a great job all day, and kept us honest.  Also to Nick/Kelly for battling through problems and still coming up with a good result.

And yes....we did have enough confidence in the Dmacks to leave the spare and tools in the trailer, and go out and make ourselves "more room"  on A5 and A6!   Our crew guys actually thought we were nuts...and we just about had an intervention before leaving!

Tom your wish is granted. I managed to collect times since first event

Times really got lowered in 2008 I think this was the year Cal from Parnell's did a little widening and other road improvements. Every year Cal makes small changes to improve for the Haul trucks each of these changes improves the road for us

Thanks for compiling that Peter!

Amazing that the same road can now yield times 5.5sec/km faster than when the rally first ran.

Love that road, my only complaint is that it's over too fast!!

Did the rally offer recce the first few years? That would make a pretty significant difference in time as well.

I do not know what Peter was driving in 2002 but it is interesting to see that the 2WD cars are now running in that time frame... Both Lance and Andrew had were in that zone this year.
