On-line HAM Radio Course

Does anyone know if an on-line course and test exist anywhere? ???

I contacted the local club here in North Bay, but they will not be doing any courses until next fall. I wanted to have my licence before Tall Pines '04.

First, this is THE Canadian site to check out (and join RAC when you get a license): http://www.rac.ca/

Then, this has good links:   http://www.rac.ca/regulatory/begin.htm

Buy the RAC Study Guide.  Download the RIC's from the Industry Canada website, AND download the Exam Generator.  This is the SAME software that will be used to generate your exam!  It was critical to me studying and passing.

Read the materials, over and over, AND at the same time, take the test with the exam software.  Your scores will start off low, and slowly get better (ummm, that's what we expect to happen, anyway).  When you keep getting 60+, grab hold of an examiner in North Bay.

There is a site, that you pay for, but looks like it might be good, and maybe if you pay, you'll study hard!  See:
http://www.hamstudy.com

Good luck Dave.

Dave

Who did you contact with regards to a locally (Nbay) given course.  I am also in North Bay and have been studying this stuff for a while without much luck - I am interested but it's DRY.  I have the book and a binder with the multiple choice questions and answers which you would be welcome to borrow if you like.

Let me know, Anthony

I went to the Radio Amateurs of Canada (rac.ca) and sent e-mail to contact at North Bay Club. (ve3nbc at rac.ca). I received a reply from the contact indicating that the course would not be offered until fall.

It would be great if I could borrow the material you have. Please contact me at dlcotie at sympatico.ca.

BTW Anthony, they are trying to get enough people together to do a course this fall.

If you are interested, drop them a line.

I just recently obtained my licence through the RSO ham radio course..... basically we sat around all weekend and kept going through the exam generator.... when we found a quesion we didn't know, we consulted the book.

If you can study the content on your own, or find a local ham who would be willing to help you study, then it's just a matter of writing the test... either through a certified examiner (there is a list on RAC), or through industry canada (i'm not sure where you'd actually go to write this though).

Definitely download the RIC's from industry canada and read them cover to cover.... http://strategis.ic.gc.ca/epic/internet/insmt-gst.nsf/en/sf05478e.html

# 2 + 3 are most important, #7 is the all the possible questions/answers that could be on the test (all 1000 of them)... same list as the electronic exam generator that you can download.

ew... just found this listing... it's got the RIC links, as well as some other important information:
http://www.rac.ca/regulatory/faqgovt3.htm

Best of luck.
