Rally Mexico
01/25/4 at 20:31:55

Hello all,

Rally season started once again.
And this year WRC is coming to Mexico.
How many if any would be interested in heading down there to watch all the WRC cars in action.
We think it's possible to do with enough people in a rented van or mini bus.

Anyone interested??

Not to discourage, at all, but what I have heard from many people is that driving into Mexico is wrought with *big* hassles at the border.  Flying down and renting is much easier, I hear.  YMMV.

Probably cheaper too. Gas, accommodations en route, extra time off work. Plus taking a rental vehicle across a boarder (even to the US) is fraught with legalities.

All we were looking for is a few people, and all I'm getting is negative feedback so far.

Oh well

Jake, wish I could!  perhaps some time in the next few years...seems like buying a car has put me in debt!  imagine that!

Anyhow, good luck and see you this weekend!!

Jake, go to Mexico, be the one!  But, a road trip was briefly discussed on the local Subie board, and the very real impression I got from reading there was that driving over the border is a total pain.  Lots of fees, palm greasing etc.  Well, it is the impression I have from what I read and they seemed to be convinced of it.  Not saying people don't do it every day, but that it's not like crossing the border here (like that's getting any easier!). Grab a charter or seat sale, rent a car, have loads of fun!  That's what I'd do, anyway.
Good luck, send postcards.

I've heard bad stories of bringing foreign cars across the border.  A foreign vehicle and it's passengers would be a target for unfriendly types (and I'm not talking about the border).  Not to discourage going, but fly.

Hi Jake & Peter,
Please, tell me more.  Have you decided to go, and if so are you flying and with who and when?
Have you got a place to stay or checked out cars?
Anyone else going?
Let me know what is happening and what you know.
Thanks,
Bob Porter

Sorry Bob,
It doesn't look like it will happen anymore.
With my dad's recent knee injury it doesn't look like we can make it.
The interest also wasn't what we anticipated, if we had much more interest then it might have been a different story.  I guess I didn't realize that people are so affraid of going to Mexico, but I guess they hears some horror stories.

We will see what will happen in the future.
