Guelph, Ontario -- The upcoming Rallye Perce-Neige Maniwaki will kick off an exciting new season for the Planet Motorsport Rally Team. After a successful introductory campaign that saw the novice team matching times with seasoned veterans, the team will move into the hotly contested Open class with a freshly-built Subaru Impreza STI.
The Open-class car has been in the works since the end of 2005. “The whole crew has put in a massive effort on the new car,” said team principal Iain Fraser. “Last year’s car served us well for our first season, but the new machine is significantly faster. Our new Hydra Nemesis engine management system will give us over 300 horsepower and will allow us to be strong contenders.”
Perce-Neige is the longest event in the Canadian championship with almost 275 kilometers of snow-covered special stages. “The roads around Maniwaki, Quebec are among the best in Canada,” said driver John Vanos. “The route is long and winding, so it will be a great way to get some seat time in the new machine before the faster gravel rallies.”
While Perce-Neige is the only full winter rally in the championship, the team isn’t fazed by the daunting conditions. “We have grown up on winter rallies and we have a good selection of tires,” said co-driver Alan Ockwell. “We’re looking forward to the challenge!”
