50th Celebration of the Canadian Rally Championship

The CARS Board has approved plans for the 50th Celebration of the Canadian Rally Championship. Arrangements are being made to secure a hotel in the Toronto Airport area for three days to remember. The 50th Celebration will feature the people who have been part of rallying in this country and, in particular, the Canadian Rally Championship.

The three day celebration will include invitations to all the past winners of the CRC since the first national champions were crowned in 1957. Les Chelminski and Les Stanley, the very first Canadian Rally Champions, will be invited and will hopefully attend the gala dinner where the 50th Canadian Rally Champions will be crowned. Several other past champions have already indicated they will be attending including Taisto Heinonen, Randy Black and Tom Burgess. Presently, plans for the three days will include several theme rooms where past artifacts will be on display, films and videos shown and round table discussions held. As well, there will be a room set up where people can just go to sit and talk to renew old acquaintances.

There will, of course, there will be some usual business to be attended to with the annual general meeting of CARS taking place on the Saturday morning. The main feature will be the gala dinner where all the past champions (driver, navigator/co-driver and marque) will be presented along with past administrators of the sport and organizers of past events. The winners of the 2006 Canadian Rally Championship season will be presented their awards during the weekend. There also some surprises being planned, so the three days should be full of excitement and good times.

In the coming days and weeks, you will find announcements being made and details concerning the arrangements being put in place. The CARS web site will be the place to watch for the latest news (http://www.carsrally.ca/).

Célébrons le 50e anniversaire du Championnat canadien de rallye
Du vendredi 12 au dimanche 14 janvier 2007
À Toronto (Ontario)

Le Conseil de CARS a approuvé les plans des Célébrations du 50e anniversaire du Championnat canadien de rallye. Nous sommes à réserver un hôtel dans le voisinage de laéroport de Toronto pour trois jours dont on se souviendra. Les Célébrations du 50e mettront en vedette les gens qui ont fait le rallye dans ce pays, en particulier le Championnat canadien de rallye. Les trois jours de fête verront passer tous les champions du CRC depuis le couronnement des premiers champions en 1957. Les Chelminski et Les Stanley, les tout premiers champions du CRC ont été invités et nous espérons les recevoir au banquet où les cinquantièmes champions du CRC seront couronnés. Beaucoup dautres anciens champions ont déjà confirmé leur présence, dont Taisto Heinonen, Randy Black et Tom Burgess. Au cours de ces trois jours de célébrations, nous prévoyons ouvrir des salles spéciales où seront présentés des films et des vidéos des divers championnats, des objets et des articles des rallyes passés ain!
si que des tables rondes sur le sport. Nous ouvrirons aussi une salle des retrouvailles où les gens pourront se retrouver et refaire connaissance.

Évidemment, nous y tiendrons aussi les activités habituelles comme lAssemblée générale annuelle du samedi matin. Le clou de ces célébrations sera le Banquet où tous les anciens champions (pilotes, navigateurs/copilotes et marques) seront honorés, ainsi que les anciens administrateurs et organisateurs. Les gagnants du championnat 2006 recevront leur trophée à cette occasion. Dautres surprises sont aussi au programme, de façon à bien remplir ces trois jours.
