Too tall to rally?
03/14/8 at 22:24:44

Hello all:

I am looking for advice. I wanted to race in some of the Ontario performance rally events this year and I was looking for a cheap (max 10K) rally prepared P class car.

I found out that I have a problem. I am tall and in order to LFB I need about 43-44 inches (110-112 cm) of space between the pedals and the driver’s seat. I also need some headroom although this is not as critical as the legroom.

Two questions:
1/ What kind of car to should I be looking for? WV? Suzuki? What else?
2/ What sites to watch? (except for www.rallyclassified.com , www.specialstage.com ?)

Thanks for any suggestions,

Paul Cry

Ian, my club is 6'6+ with 4 feet of legs (usually part of 6'8-6'9 body, but not in my case Grin).

BTW, I am sad to see the 911 gone... too many Subarus around...

Uhh, Ian is one of those sub-a-rat owners now!

Oh, add eagle talons to the avoid list.

Honestly, I don't think you'd have too bad of a time finding a car that would fit, with a bit of effort and the right seat mounting. If you can afford Ian's whip, I'm pretty sure he'd be willing to let you ass test it, and see if you could make it work for you.

I think ACP is 6 foot 4, he's competed in Ian's shnitzel-hoffer, as well as co-driven for Jen in her 323... I wouldn't consider either of those as big or tall cars, and he had no complaints (that I heard of!)... In my rally car (said 323), the seats are on stock sliders - they could go back (and down) at least 4 inches further from the current max - I'm six foot, if not a tad more, and I can barely reach the pedals on the furthest setting.

Its easily doable, granted, a little bit of extra prep and research may/will be in order at times, but nothing major.

Now, break out the visa and get to it.
