Shannonville Changes to Regulations
03/12/9 at 12:31:53

Posted by Organizer Peter Watt to Rally Ontario

Hi Folks,
I've made some changes and clarifications to the Shannonville Stages Rally
and added a few other points.  You can check the bulletins at the site:

http://www3.sympatico.ca/pwatt/SSR09/2009SSRally.htm

Basically:
Tires:
No DOT stamping required.  Basically, tires but be roadworthy as per CARS
regulations.  Ontario MOT definition of road worthy is listed.

SCCA, NASA, RA vehicles accepted if log-booked and car and crew conform to
those regulations.

HANS rental is available through CSC Racing.

The team hopes to see you at Ontario's only all tarmac rally on April 4.

Sweet! Good to see that happen... My car won't be running in any case, but I'd just like to say its a good move in my opinion...

So what the heck is going on with this event? The event is just three weeks away and I'm tying to find out if you guys need workers and/or radio marshals, but there is no worker link or worker information on the official website and no one seems to be talking about the event on the PMSC or KWRC boards. From what I can find this MLRC thread is the only one with any real discussion.

So what's up? Are you guys covered for marshals? Is the track providing their own people?

FYI from SS board (I think this is a great news)  Smiley:

New stage added to Shannonville Stages Rally
With a little judicious tweaking, we have been able to add an additional stage which will be approximately 20 km in length, using the Shannonville Pro Track - this well give us 7 stages with over 140 km of competitive stages. I think that puts us 2 laps short of a National Smiley. This gives us 7 distinct layouts - one for each stage - the shortest stage is about 7 km - the longest 48.

More event info is at http://www3.sympatico.ca/pwatt/SSR09/2009SSRally.htm

Stage layout info is at http://www.shannonville.com/body.php?section=track&page=maps

(not using go cart or drag strip layouts (although both are part of other circuits.)

So....let me get this straight.

1.  Tires do not need DOT stamp
2.  Tires do need to meet CARS regulations, stating tires must be "roadworthy"
3.  Roadworthy should generally be assumed as DOT/MTO standards
4.  DOT/MTO standards REQUIRE DOT stamps, minimum tread depth, and no grooving.
5.  See #1!

Can i go ahead and assume that the cycle can stop at #2, since this rule might well as not even be there.  There are what?  2 DOT approved gravel tires, and just about everyone grooves.

"this is the song that never ends....yes it goes on and on my friend...."

If I am not mistaken, there are also E tires (European equivalent to DOT) and FIA approved rally tarmac racing tires (min 17% tread) which might be non-DOT (like mine  Roll Eyes). It seems counterproductive to exclude FIA rally tires if the rest of the world uses them. The same goes for E tires (or, should I say E tyres? Smiley).

Also, once again, I am not sure, but I think the E marked tires should be MTO allowed given the "E" and "DOT" equivalency.

But, then again, I might be wrong. I guess, someone who took part in Targa would know better. Anybody wants to comment?
