What do you do with your old brake disks?

I'm sure that someone here has figured out a solution to this problem.

I've got a stack of old brake disks sitting in my garage.  I don't want to throw them out because it seems a shame to waste that much good metal.  I can't put them in the blue box because they're not the sort of thing municipal recycling takes.

How do people here deal with their old brake disks?  Is there some metal recycler somewhere around Toronto that takes them?  And in small quantities?

Easy.

I sell them on ebay as "slightly used with less then a thousand KM's on them"

(Note, I meant 1000 km of braking!)

(Just kidding, no advice other then the generic Kijijijijijiji or Craigslist has the solution advice)

Any metal recycler will take them.

Or for the more creative types, they could be used for some type of homemade drum set.  Or perhaps a very stylish hat?  The greatest fashions and art forms are always unappreciated in their own time.

I think any welding and fabrication shop with a scrap metal bin wouldn't have a problem with you tossing a few disks in there.

Going by the weight of brake disk, even when it's worn down to its limit, would probably be unappreciated by the neck as well when it's worn as a hat.  Cheesy

Right, cause function has never taken a backseat to fashion ever before...   Tongue

Recently I saw that a shop had used them as a base, welded to exhaust tubing to use as supports when installing exhaust.  Also saw a car club weld poles of some sort to them used to run rope around their car so people wouldn't stick their noses to close to the them.

As a hat I think they'd be a bit heavy - but - with only a little bit of work they'd make a good dinner plate or ashtray.

I would guess an auto wreckers would take them - they could toss them into a car to be crushed for added weight.

I've had a change of heart about the whole brake-disc-as-a-hat thing.  I think the look works:

With optional caliper in case - you know - you're possessed.
