New rally participants wanted!  Read here:

We had a great 2010 in the ORRC series with tight battles in the Novice AND Expert classes.  Okay, Intermediate was pure and utter domination by one incredible team, but that won't be the case next year, as Burgess / Ford and Brownhill / Corbett are moving up from Novice to Intermediate to join Hancher and Doig.

That leaves a massive vacuum in Novice for budding rallyists. There is literally no better time to get involved in Navigational Rally as you can be competitive from your first entry.  That will be January 8th out of Waterdown/Burlington, by the way...  a few minutes from the QEW.  On top of that, we have talented and experienced navigators advertising for drivers!  A rare time indeed!

There is NO cheaper form of motorsport so easily accessible.  Hours of automotive entertainment for $45 split between two people.  Every event welcomes new rallyists with an introductory course to help them get started.  It can be a great way for families to spend time together.

Here's the first novice-friendly event of the year, just a couple of weeks away:

The rest of the 2011 calendar is here (look for the GREEN events):

What you DO need:
-  An insured road car that you have permission to drive.  Your daily driver will do!

-  One person in the pair with a driver's license.  (Hopefully you're two for two so far.)

-  A pen.

-  For the next couple of winter rallies on the calendar, you'll need a safety triangle like truckers have so that you can help other stranded motorists you come across.  Available cheap from Princess Auto or other automotive supply stores.

-  A watch with a seconds indicator will make life easier, but even this is optional.

What you DON'T need:
-  A specially prepared vehicle.  If your beater can make it to work or school most days, you can do a navigational rally with it.

-  Club affiliation.  Do a few events and then decide if you want to join some of your new friends in a club or just continue rallying independently.

-  Specialized equipment.  There's things that make life easier like a clipboard, a booklight to read the routebook at night, etc. but it's all optional.

If you want to get involved in the first rally of the year, contact Kurt at kurt.seelenmayer@cogeco.ca or (905) 628-1063.  If you want to know more about navigational rally, Rita will be happy to help.  Contact her at vpnavigational@rallysport.on.ca.

I would highly recommend anyone who liked driving to get involved in some of these events.

They can be real fun and teach the skills needed to drive fast and safe. Esp on the white stuff Wink

no helmet.

all you need is a passenger with pensil and notepad and calcualtor. and safety triangle in the car jut in case, especially for winter night events.

ORRC rallies are held on public roads, below speed limits, you'll be sharing road with local traffic. The main goal is not to get lost, once you get a hang of that, the goal becomes staying on time.
