Car Zero Report - 2013-05-09 - Lanark; Blossom

What a beautiful day it was in Lanark! The bugs weren't too bad, and the road stayed in pretty good shape. The fifth annual running of the Lanark Highland Forest Rally went off without any major hitches this past Saturday, thanks to the MIke Koch and his crew from MCO. Congratulations to Sylvain and Simon Vincent in their '94 Impreza who finished over a minute and a half ahead of 2012 OPRC champion Ryan Huber and John Vanos. Third place in 4WD went to the team of Simon Leclerc and Vincent Allard.

Topping the 2WD chart was Martin Walter and Ferd Trauttmannsdorff in their (sorta) trusty '91 Nissan 240SX, with Sergei Grishechkin and Ksenia Prokofjeva just over a minute behind. Taking third place in 2WD was Andrew Kulikowski and Derek Vincent. Grishechkin had alternator failure at the mid-point service but was able to finish the rally with the help of workers and competitors at the starts of the final 3 stages.

The rally had a really good split of 4WD and 2WD cars - 13 to 11 - and of the 24 entries, 17 cars were more than 10 years old. There were only 2 mechanical DNF's and 1 off-road DNF - a good result for this event. Full results are available here http://kwrc.on.ca/2013/Results/Lanark/

1965 - Beatlemania was in full swing, and no doubt there were plenty of Beetles entered in KWRC's inaugural Blossom Rally http://www.kwrc.on.ca/events/blossom/index.html. This year, (the 49th running, for those that can't do the math) there may be New Beetles, but more likely there will be a lot of blue Subarus. Just sayin'.

Running this Saturday May 11, Blossom is a two-part navigational rally. The entire rally is the fourth in the 2013 ORRC series, but the second leg is the second in the KWRC SNATR http://www.kwrc.on.ca/events/snatr/May13.html series. The start/mid-point/finish location is the Mohawk Inn at Guelph Line and the 401, and the full rally is about 220 km long. For the experts and intermediate classes, there will be the usual Wharton/Loveridge array of deceptions, obfuscations and misdirection, with multiple checkpoints and loops for all. An Introduction to Rally will be given before the start of both legs of the rally.

For newbies, the SNATR is perfect - an easy, relaxed 2-hour drive in the Campbellville area (west of Milton). Start time for Leg B is about 5:45 pm. KW always designs their SNATR rallies for beginners, for those who aren't sure what rallying is all about. Bring your friends and introduce them to rallying here.

Other upcoming navigational events:
May 25 - MCO Four Seasons Rally Series - Spring Fling Rally
May 26 - KWRC rally for Girls Inc of Halton
June 15 - KWRC SNATR #3
June 22 - TAC Discover Ontario Car Rally, #5 in the ORRC series
July 28 - Rally school, Mini Monte and BBQ
