Taisto Heinonen competed in the Rocky Mountain Rally 40 years ago. This weekend he & Leanne Junilla entered the Rocky again in a 1986 Toyota Corolla GTS (RWD of course) and placed 1st Open 2WD and 11th Overall. That's an achievement for some of our young drivers to strive for.

Taisto was my first rally hero. Around 1982 at the Voyageurs Rally, when I heard him coming and saw him fly by through an S turn without ever lifting and with the transition from left to left in a perfect arc, I was hooked. The sound of four downdrafts sucking air at 8000 RPM didn't hurt either.
